Here's the quick, down and dirty version of how to interpret your dreams

Step 1: Note (record or discuss) the following 4 main aspects of the dream:
                                                • EMOTIONS- Note any emotions you felt during the dream. One way to hone in on this is to note the emotion you woke up with.
                                                • THEME- Decide on the main theme of the dream. A good way to do this is to think of a title for the dream. For example, being chased through the woods
                                                • SYMBOLS- List the main symbols in the dream. Think about the main players in the story (“players” don’t have to be people, for example- big blue chair, ex-husband, old woman); and notice anything that was out of place or odd in the dream.
                                                • DETAILS- Finally, add any more details you can remember about the dream. Retelling or writing  the dream down is a good way to recount many of the small details. Don't worry if you cannot recall any details, sometimes you can only remember the first 3 main aspects.
Step 2: Make associations between the 4 main aspects of the dream and your waking life. This may be done through the use of the dream dictionary, dream interpretation services or simply by discussing the dreams' aspects and your ideas with a friend or fellow dream group member. For example, "The blue chair, oh I saw a blue chair in that movie last night." or "ex-husband, maybe there is something about him that I'm missing in my life right now." or "old woman, what or who in my life right now is like an old woman?"

Step 3: Notice what rings true for you. As you explore the associations, any aha! moments you have will indicate that you're on the right track with interpretation.
